Description
Owlbear are among the most feared of the nocturnal forest dwelling monsters, and for good reason for they are always hungry and always aggressive. They appear to be bears with owlish faces, including a large, sharp beak. They fight much as do bears. On a natural 19-20 with a claw attack, an owlbear pulls the victim into a crushing hug for 2d8 extra damage.
These monsters are known to hunt by day when particularly hungry, but they prefer to live nocturnally. They have superior Darkvision with a range of 120 feet, without the usual penalties for being in full sunlight. They are also very quiet, surprising on 1-4 on 1d6 in their native territory.
