The spell affects 2d6 creatures, plus an additional creature for every caster level above 8th. Creatures of 3 HD or fewer are automatically affected by the spell, and it takes effect immediately. Creatures of 4 HD or more automatically resist the confusion effect until it reaches its full power, which takes a number of minutes equal to 1d4. These creatures must make a saving throw when the effect reaches full power and every 10 minutes thereafter or become confused for the remainder of the spell’s duration.
